Recommended Paint Brands
- Benjamin Moore Regal Select (Eggshell) — Zero VOC, extremely durable, easy to clean. Best color accuracy.
- Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint (Eggshell/Satin) — Excellent durability, washable, low VOC. More budget-friendly.
- Behr Marquee (Eggshell) — One-coat coverage, available at Home Depot. Most budget-friendly.
For children's rooms: Choose Eggshell or Satin finish — easy to wipe clean, not so shiny it shows imperfections.
Coverage
- 1 gallon = ~350-400 sq ft per coat. Plan for 2 coats.
- Typical 12x15 room (8ft ceilings) = 2-3 gallons primary + 1 gallon accent + 1 gallon trim
Supplies Checklist
- Roller covers — 3/8" (smooth) or 1/2" (textured) nap
- Roller frame + extension pole
- 2" angled brush — edges, corners, trim
- FrogTape (green) for crisp lines
- Drop cloths, paint tray + liners, stir sticks
- Primer — if painting over dark colors or bare drywall
Safety: Always choose Zero-VOC or Low-VOC paint for kids' spaces. Look for "GreenGuard Gold" certification.
Color Matching
- Take hex codes to any paint store — they input them into their matching system
- Always get a sample pint first and paint a 2'x2' swatch on your wall
- Test in your actual room — colors look different under fluorescent vs. natural light
